Long Islanders weighed in on a controversial plan by Las Vegas Sands to build a casino and resort at the Nassau Coliseum site.

Hundreds attended two public hearings at the Uniondale Marriott hosted by the Town of Hempstead. The forums focused on the potential environmental impact of the project.

Some spoke out against the proposed casino, citing increases in traffic, pollution and crime.

Others in attendance said the project would bring jobs and millions in tax revenue.

The hearings happened as Nassau County and Hofstra University continue their bitter battle over the plan.

Hofstra University President Susan Poser was subpoenaed to testify before the Nassau County Legislature on Monday. Attorneys for Hofstra are asking the court to throw away that subpoena.
