Dr. Jeffrey Nicastro and Juan Moscol served in the Navy aboard their respective ships. They are now on board at Maimonides Medical Center.

Moscol was a petty officer, stationed on board the USS Nassau as a storekeeper from 1987 to 1991. He worked as a security officer after he served and would eventually go back to school for nursing.

"The military has given me an edge to be able to transition into nursing and gave me a more of an understanding of how things should be done," Moscol said.

Nicastro transitioned into the Navy as a surgeon from medical school. A Navy scholarship paid for his medical schooling but required him to serve from 1993 to 1997.

"Mostly doing what a general surgeon would do in the civilian world, with the exception of occasional deployments to support our operations elsewhere," Nicastro said.

Maimonides Medical Center officials says it has roughly 40 employees who are military veterans. Some of them will walk in this Saturday's New York City Veterans Day Parade.
