Three community gardens in the Bronx will continue growing for residents after being saved from development.

The gardens are located on land formerly owned by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, but are now a part of the Green Thumb Program with the Department of Parks and Recreations.

A total of 34 gardens throughout the city were transferred to the city's Green Thumb Program.

The gardens will receive staff and other expertise to make them stronger.

People will be able to take fruits and vegetables from the garden home with them. 

Gardeners and local residents say it is a great experience for many in the community.

"Now in the last 10 years what you've seen is the Bronx blooming and these projects are a direct manifestation of that blooming, pun intended," says Tanya Fields, a Bronx gardener.
