A Bronx gas station employee remains in critical condition at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi after being shot in the head while on the job.
The shooting took place just after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Allerton Gas Station on Boston Road. Friends of the 59-year-old victim say he had just started his shift when a man with a gun ran up to the open front door and started shooting.
Employees at the Sunoco are still thinking about their friend and colleague who is currently recovering.
“He is my friend, he lives in the same province as I do,” said Jerry Negro, local mechanic and owner of an auto body shop next to the gas station. He says he ran next door when he heard the shots ring out and found his friend critically injured.
Local customers say he was always friendly and respectful, and that the man would often send money back to Pakistan to support his wife and six kids.
Police officials say they are now turning their focus to security cameras in the area to catch the gunman they say fled from the scene.
