10h agoA man is under arrest after a statue was vandalized at a Gerritsen Beach church this weekend.
It happened Saturday at Resurrection Church, where police were called and found the Virgin Mary statue covered head to toe with black paint. At the bottom the world “fake” was written.
Police say the person responsible was later arrested, but it was not deemed a hate crime, and instead that the person is unstable with mental health issues.
People in the community say this wasn’t the first time this happened, and the statue is fairly new.
