A Deer Park Girl Scout created a special monument to honor residents who have died.
Deer Park High School graduate Emily Franciscovich spearheaded the idea of the memorial bench and garden. It pays tribute to her classmates and people with ties to the community who have died.
Franciscovich says she began work on the memorial nearly one year ago. She also said it is to raise awareness for mental health among teenagers.
"I honored specific classmates that have passed during my time here," she said. "I had a really overwhelming response from the school and community. Everybody was really supportive in bringing this project to life and I'm great full for that."
The memorial earned Franciscovich her Girl Scouts Gold Award.
