One good Samaritan helped save two dogs that were found in very bad condition along the side of the road.
Investigators say that the dogs were found outside of Flatlands with flies swarming them and taken to Veterinary Emergency Group on Ralph Avenue. They also had open wounds.
“About 10 minutes after it was posted on social media, I was driving in Long Island City, and I got the call that they were in dire need of help,” said Jennifer Brooks, founder of NYC Second Chance Rescue.
The dogs were placed in Brooks’ car and taken to Veterinary Emergency Group. Brooks says they weren’t sure if the male dog would make it.
Geraldine Reyes with the vet center says they were able to determine that the dogs were neglected.
“You can see their bones, they were very skinny,” said Reyes. “They weren’t able to stand, based on their body condition basically.”
The two dogs, named Angel and Aiden, are now recovering and looking for their new home.
