Gov. Cuomo: All New Yorkers must wear face coverings in public

The executive order states that anyone in public must have a mask or mouth and nose covering in public when they cannot or are not maintaining social distancing.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order asking everyone to wear a mask in public in most situations goes into effect today.
The governor says the overall goal is to stop the spread of COVID-19, and that the masks help protect New Yorkers.
The executive order states that anyone in public must have a mask or mouth and nose covering in public when they cannot or are not maintaining social distancing.

He says if you’re going to be walking down the street alone, and there is absolutely no one else around, that’s fine. But, he says to make sure you have a mask with you, so you can put it on in case you come in proximity of other people.

Gov. Cuomo says he’s not telling people to not go out for a walk or take the dog out of the house, but he’s asking people to be respectful and make sure they’re not infecting anyone else, because, again, he says you could have it and not be showing symptoms. 
New Yorkers taking any kind of public transportation, bus or subway must be wearing a mask or covering as well.
The governor says in the end wearing a mask and social distancing, is all about doing the right thing to help out fellow New Yorkers and keep the city safe.
The Department of Health says that face masks do not make people invincible and say the best thing to do is stay home.
