Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the MTA to finish major bridge and tunnel construction projects in and out of Manhattan by July 8, much earlier than originally planned.
The accelerated deadline will include the launch of cashless tolling at the Verrazano and RFK bridges, as well as the opening of new lanes in the Midtown and Battery tunnels.
Cashless tolling on the Verrazano was originally planned for November. The bridge will get an HOV lane as well.
The move comes as track work at Penn Station is set to begin on July 10 and carry on through the end of August.
