Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that gyms will be allowed to reopen Aug. 24, but with certain precautions.
For the past few months, many residents had to find a way to work out without fitness facilities open due to the pandemic. Many say they took their workout routines outdoors.

Starting Aug. 24, they will have the option to go back indoors for their exercise.

Gov. Cuomo says the gyms will have to abide by certain precautions, including operating at only 33% capacity and requiring masks to be worn at all times.

As well, localities will determine if classes can be held and local health departments will conduct inspections.

One resident who works out told News 12 that he thinks the reopening of gyms will help a lot of people who have been feeling down because of the pandemic.

It is unclear if New York City gyms will reopen. News 12 reached out the mayor’s office and is waiting to hear back.
