An organization that helps families and children, including foster children, unveiled its newest facility in downtown Brooklyn on Monday.

Graham Windham opened the facility dedicated to children's services back in January, and so far it's helping families get connected to more resources and help build a stronger future.

"It sort of lessens the stress of doing foster care because I consider foster care the monster of social work," said Nichole Robinson, case planning supervisor for Graham Windham.

Graham Windham CEO Kimberly Watson can related to her organization's foster care work – she was in the foster care system during her childhood.

"Growing up in the 70s, a lot of what I experienced then is very similar to what our kids are experiencing now," she said.

According to the city's Administration of Child Services, over 6,700 children are in the foster care system, and 221 foster children have been placed in homes so far this year.

The new facility offers services such as afterschool youth programs. To Watson, she calls it an oasis.

"I call it that because it is a place we have co-created with our kids, with our families, with our community," said Kimberly Watson.

Graham Windham says it's looking to expand these new-and-improved child and family care features to its other locations, including in Hunts Point.
