Some families in the South Bronx are getting boxes of hand-delivered produce and groceries right at their doorsteps.
It’s a community service that the Green Bronx Machine provides throughout the city, traveling several miles to drop off food to cancer survivors and those particularly in the South Bronx.
The Morris Houses was one of those many stops Friday and 69-year-old Carmen Marcano says she’s grateful for the help because she can’t always go to the grocery store.
“They deliver us every weekend because it's great because us elderly can't come out and shop for food fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Marcano.
The Green Bronx Machine was founded in 2011 and is providing fresh fruits and veggies to thousands of people a week across the city.
The produce is locally grown and planted by students.
