A similar gun to the one used to kill UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson Wednesday that was recently sold in Connecticut has nothing do to the shooting, the New York Times has reported.

According to the Times, a law enforcement official said, "the purchaser of the weapon, which resembled the gun used to kill Thompson, has been identified and is not a suspect."

Officials believe the weapon used in the shooting was a rare B&T Station Six.

Police visited a Connecticut gun shop Thursday where that similar gun was purchased to see if there was a connection to the shooting, reports said.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for any information on the case.
