Gun violence victims, their families and elected officials met in Crown Heights to show support for a bill that supporters say would hold gun manufacturers and dealers accountable.

Sen. Zellnor Myrie and others are pushing for a new bill to allow lawsuits to move forward against gun manufacturers and dealers.

"I am tired of going to vigils for our fallen children, tired of seeing candles on the floor for people that we have lost in our communities," Sen. Myrie said.

Sen. Myrie says data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shows their members "rack up violation after violation."

"When the ATF inspectors say they should lose [their] license, the supervisors say, 'Let's just send them a warning letter.' This is for doing things like not filling out background check information, not securing your inventory, and that particular bad actor should be able to be brought into court."

The bill in the Senate moved out of committee last week. Advocates are calling on more lawmakers to join the cause.
