Dozens of guns were exchanged Saturday for cash or for a new iPad in Brownsville.
Forty-eight guns were collected, including 14 handguns, 26 long guns, five antique guns and three assault rifles.
The exchange program is part of an ongoing effort to end gun violence that saw a spike in 2020.
Officials adding that it's a safe way, with no strings attached, to get these guns off the street.
"We have to replace a gun with something – a book, an iPad, a job,” says state Attorney General Letitia James. “You've got to make sure that we step up and reach out to communities that are struggling right now with gun violence."
