A 22-year-old corrections officer is fighting for his life following a multivehicle crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway.
Richard Lue was injured in the crash that killed one person Monday. Police say it began as a two-car collision but turned into at least a six-vehicle crash, as other vehicles struck one or both of the original vehicles involved in the crash. It snarled traffic for miles and left debris covering the roadway.
Family and friends say Lue is known for his energy and drive that he puts into everything he does, especially basketball.
"He made us look good," says Warren Thompson, assistant basketball coach at Bronx Community College. "He was that kind of young man. He was always very outgoing and he was someone Bronx Community College was proud to call a student athlete."
Off the court, Lue is known as someone who is willing to help and serve the community.
"He always had a smile on his face," says LPAC basketball coach Victor Crespo. "He was a great person."
Family and friends are now praying and hoping for a miracle.
