The FDNY honored the life of a probationary firefighter who died this week after suffering a medical episode during his training.
The department says 31-year-old Brooklyn native Vincent Malveaux started to feel sick during a functional skills exercise and passed out shortly after. He was taken to the hospital where he died on Friday.
News 12 was told Malveaux was about a third of the way through his training.
The FDNY honored his service on Saturday by hanging purple and black bunting at Station 19 in the Bronx, where he worked as an EMT for four years.
His former colleagues, who affectionately called him Pablo, were emotional as they spoke about him.
“He was a hero…every patient he had, he was their hero…he was my brother and I will never forget him,” says FDNY member Christian Marte.
