HEADLINES: Sullivan County murder, murder trial for ex-Briarcliff Manor police officer, $32K grant forgery

Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A Sullivan County man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in Fallsburg. State police were called to a home on Sunday because of a domestic dispute. When they arrived, they found the victim – 61-year-old Marilyn Torres. Officers later arrested Joseph Detzauer, 37, who they say strangled the victim. He was remanded to the Sullivan County jail without bail.
A trial could begin next year for ex-Briarcliff Manor police officer Nicholas Tartaglione. According to a proposed schedule submitted by attorneys for the federal government and Tartaglione, a trial could begin in Federal Court in White Plains in March 2023. Tartaglione is facing charges from a quadruple murder in Orange County that happened over five years ago. He faces the death penalty for the 2016 slayings. If a penalty phase is needed, it would begin soon after the trial is completed.
And a former SUNY Sullivan professor is facing felony charges for allegedly forging a grant application worth $32,000. Cynthia Marcello is charged with forgery in the second degree. Marcello resigned from SUNY in March of 2020. An investigation found Marcello falsely signed a grant application without permission, with the money paid directly to her.
