As of Monday, over 1,000 people in our city have tested positive for presumed cases of monkeypox, according to the city's health department.
The news comes as the White House is apparently looking for someone to handle the ongoing outbreak on the federal level.
Two sources report the Biden administration is working on adding a monkeypox coordinator to the staff, but they have not hired anyone yet.
The World Health Organization declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern over the weekend.
So far, 2,900 cases of the virus have been confirmed in the U.S.
