HEAT ALERT: Extreme heat and possible thunderstorms for Saturday before temps cool Sunday

News 12 Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Darryl Green says there is a heat advisory in effect for New York City through 8 p.m. Saturday for high heat and humidity that creates feel-like temperatures in excess of 95 degrees.
There is an air quality alert in effect through 11 p.m. for high heat, humidity, and sunshine that enhances the presence of pollution creating an environment that's unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Tonight: Clear to partly cloudy, warm and humid with lows from the mid- to upper-70s.
Saturday: Slight risk of scattered strong to severe showers and storms, primarily during the afternoon and evening. However, there is a chance of morning showers and storms. Highs will again reach the low- to mid-90s with the heat index potentially reaching 103. Potential for strong to severe evening storms.
Sunday: Sun and clouds, highs from the upper-70s to the mid-80s.
Monday: Mostly sunny with highs from the upper-70s to the low-80s.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny with highs from the mid-70s to the low-80s.
Wednesday: Sunny, highs from the mid-70s to the low-80s.
