The Department of Health is offering residents tips to cool down as temperatures hit 90 degrees and above in the Bronx and the city.
High humidity and pollution are also dragging down air quality, which will affect some people with health issues.
The Department of Health has issued an air quality warning, telling people to limit outdoor exercise and activities Friday. People are urged to cut back on their energy use to make it easier to breathe.
Officials suggest using mass transit instead of driving in order to cut down on the pollution level. They also suggest keeping lights and household appliances off during the day.
For those unable to get inside, the Health Department urges residents to stay cool by drinking plenty of fluids. They also suggest checking up on relatives and neighbors, and to utilize 311 to get information on cooling centers and heat safety tips.
