Anti-heroin abuse advocates and family members of heroin abuse victims gathered at a forum in the Bronx to address growing concerns and awareness of the heroin epidemic in the borough.
The event was held at the Villa Barone Manor in Throgs Neck Tuesday night and organized by Carolyn Colandro, a Bronx mother who recently lost her son to a fatal heroin overdose last month.
New York Sen. Jeffrey Klein also spearheaded the event where victims of heroin abuse spoke in front of an audience.
The event also highlighted overdose prevention and the use of an anti-opioid drug Naloxone.
Everyone who attended the event received a Naloxone kit, which many law enforcement and civilians are encouraged to carry to prevent a heroin overdose.
