Yvonne Simmons, a resident at NYCHA's Highbridge Houses, says she's been living with a hole in her wall for two years.
On Tuesday, Simmons showed News 12 how she keeps her furniture covered to prevent damage from the dirt and debris that enters her living room from the exposed area.
"I have, for the last two years, been asking NYCHA to come and fix my apartment," she said.
Simmons showed News 12 some of the service tickets she's submitted to 311 since last year and her messages with NYCHA, which she said haven't resolved anything.
The issues in her apartment have expanded to the bathroom ceiling and bedroom walls. Now, she's worried for her pets, Booboo and Nacho.
"I don't want them to touch the fallen wall, lick their paws and then they get sick, because that's another bill for me," she said.
NYCHA told News 12, "NYCHA staff visited the resident [on Tuesday] and have scheduled the necessary plastering work for the apartment. Once that work is complete, painting will be scheduled."
