Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday said the state is fighting for a resolution to use federal facilities for temporarily housing migrants.
She said being able to access facilities like Floyd Bennett Field would ease the pressure on overpopulated city shelters. In addition to asking for more federal resources, Hochul added that she plans to meet with immigration services in the city to add more staffing, hopefully speeding up the processing time for asylum seekers.
Since last spring, New York City has seen more than 110,000 asylum seekers arrive.
