The housing lottery is now open for the 33-unit affordable housing building at 2017 Grand Concourse in Mount Hope.
"It is in a great location on the Concourse," says Eddy Antar, the senior vice president of Bronx Pro Group, which is developing the building. "I love the light, I love the size of the apartments, and they're really beautiful. I think people will really enjoy them."
The cheapest available unit is a studio for $544 a month, which is available for either one person making between $22,458 and $32,610 a year or two people making between $22,458 and $37,290 a year, and Antar says all of the rent is "well below market."
The most expensive apartments are a pair of two-bedroom units going for $2,121 a month. Those will go to between two and five-person families making between $78,549 and $159,315.
Antar said the hope is that by offering affordable prices, tenants will say "instead of spending money on rent, I can spend money on groceries, on activities for my kids."
A total of 75% of the apartments will go to people who win the lottery, while the remaining quarter is being set aside for formerly homeless seniors, who News 12 is told will be referred to the New York City Office of Housing Preservation and Development by the Department of Homeless Services.
"It gives them the stability to raise a family, to have a place to call home, and to use it as a stepping stone," says Antar.
The building is expected to be ready for people to move in starting in April, and will also include amenities like a gym, a laundry room and roof deck on the tenth floor.
Anyone in New York City can apply for the lottery online.
