A city housing oversight program has landlords and their property managers rushing repairs this summer -- shaming noncompliant buildings by placing them on the Department of Housing Preservation and Development's Alternative Enforcement list.

"They can comply and get out, or HPD can step in," says Grace Defina, a special enforcement officer with the department.

Buildings can land on the infamous list for violating safety rules on smoke detectors, rodents or lead, among many others. 

One of the 63 Bronx buildings on the list is at 2350 Valentine Ave. The building manager says he addressed all of the violations there within a month of being placed on the list, but HPD officials said there were six remaining -- and only three of those were expected to be cleared Tuesday.

About 40 of the listed Bronx buildings have been dismissed so far.
