Testimony continued on Thursday in the murder trial of Paul Caneiro. He is charged with murder and arson in the killings of his brother, Keith Caneiro and Keith's family back in 2018.

New Jersey State Police forensic scientist Judith Link took the witness stand first on Thursday and was asked about what was learned from bullet holes left in Keith's jacket. One of the five bullets fired into to Keith showed evidence of a point-blank shot.

“It exhibited the physical characteristics of a bullet hole produced when the muzzle of a firearm is in contact or near contact with the garment when discharged,” said Link.

Next, Monmouth County Lt. Patrick Petruzziello told jurors he reviewed jailhouse calls as prosecutors played them out loud.

On one call, Paul can be heard saying, “I just can't believe I'm here.”

In other conversations, Paul requested more books to read in jail, specifically science fiction, before focusing his conversation on the trust fund and asking his family to take access.

“I'm the trustee. I want to give you access to my account. Just sign on, she can look it up by my Social Security number,” said Paul Caneiro on one of those calls from jail.

Under cross-examination, the defense questioned the lieutenant about lack of security video from other areas around Paul's home in Ocean Township, and once again asked about the two men in baseball hats a witness testified seeing around 4:30 a.m. early in the trial.

“What, if any, investigation was done to look into the two men with the baseball caps at 4:30 a.m.?” I know that they interviewed neighbors, other neighbors, the firefighters conducted interviews,” answered Lt. Patrick Petruzziello.

The trial will resume on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
