Nearly two dozen Bronx students put their skills to work Saturday, using their knowledge of coding and love for playing games to teach valuable life lessons.

Several students in grades 6-12 at IN-Tech Academy had the opportunity to participate in the first-ever “Hack League Game Jam” event, working to create their own playable games.

The event is part of an initiative through "Games for Change,” an organization that uses gaming to help people learn about real life issues.

Participants worked in groups to put their coding skills to work. News 12 The Bronx is told the winner will eventually go on to compete with students across the city.

Students say that one of the best things about coding is being able to express creativity while learning something new.

“It makes me feel proud because not only boys can do it,” said student Tuku Gaye. “It's not a stereotype to code."
