The Internal Revenue Service is making a clarification that
could mean some added money in your tax returns this year.
According to the IRS:
“The purchase of personal protective equipment, such as
masks, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes, for the primary purpose of
preventing the spread of coronavirus are deductible medical expenses.”
It goes on to say that the amounts paid for PPE “are also
eligible to be paid or reimbursed under health flexible spending arrangements (health
FSAs), Archer medical savings accounts (Archer MSAs), health reimbursement
arrangements (HRAs), or health savings accounts (HSAs).”
The IRS is helping people determine what other medical
expenses are tax deductible on
the agency’s website.
