The Islanders began voluntary workouts this week, even though they are still weeks away from the Stanley Cup qualifiers. However, one well-known Islanders fan is already hard at work delivering signs and smiles to first responders.
Patrick Dowd is the Islanders famous "Sign Guy." With his daughter Logan by his side, he's making good on his promise to give away some of his most famous signs.
As a sign of thanks to Isles fans, who are also first responders in the pandemic, he gave Stony Brook University Hospital pharmacist Claudia Alfiero a sign that said "Always Believe."
It's also the sign Patrick is probably best known for, holding it high on game nights. It's also a motto Claudia has held close to her heart after she contracted the coronavirus in April.
"I fought my way to come back because I knew how much people need all of us health care professionals," says Alfiero.
Dowd posted the idea on Twitter last month and got nearly 50 responses from people making their case.
Including the one from Patricia in Kings Park, who wanted Patrick to surprise her husband George, an NYPD officer.
While all Islanders fans have plenty of stuff in their Islanders collection, they say getting something you can't buy anywhere makes this even more special.
