An 11-year-old inventor from Long Island is giving back to make sure other children have a special holiday season.
Mia Monzidelis of Bellmore has always been a lover of ponies. She brought that passion to life and is now the CEO of her own business.
“I decided to put my zoom-powered engine and my plush together, and I came up with the Power Pony,” Monzidelis says.
The fifth grader’s creations come with bells, whistles, flashing LED lights and sound effects.
Monzidelis was only 6 when she created the Power Pony and now has her own patent.
She has sold nearly 5,000 Power Ponies nationwide since August but views her real success by the joy she has given.
Monzidelis gave a $5,000 matching donation to Family and Children’s Association of Garden City.
The nonprofit organization provides services to more than 30,000 vulnerable Long Islanders a year.
“The money is going to help seniors, our addiction treatment centers,” says Craig Pinto of Family and Children’s Association. “We have our children’s programs.”
The Bellmore inventor is the youngest donor on FCA’s giving tree.
She plans to branch out with more Power Pony sales and become charitable in the future.
“I want to help kids and families because it just makes my heart very happy,” Monzidelis says.
