The death of a 10-year-old girl at a Tremont apartment building last week has left community members with unanswered questions.
A growing memorial now sits outside 2157 Southern Blvd. This is where police say the 10-year-old child suffered fatal injuries, possibly linked to a fall.
"It's very sad. I mean, I don't know what to say," a neighbor tells News 12.
News 12 is told the building's surveillance cameras captured the fall, although video was not shared, as authorities continue to comb through evidence.
"As a parent, you never want this to happen to your kids. We're all a family here," a resident tells News 12.
Window guards and fire escapes are visible on every floor of the building. The Department of Buildings was not called to investigate the incident. Child services says they are working with the NYPD as part of its investigation.
No arrests or criminal charges have been filed at this time. The identity of the 10-year-old girl has not yet been released by authorities.
News 12 is told the medical examiner is working to figure out the cause of death.
