A high school in Sheepshead Bay is finding a special way to celebrate the seniors graduating this year.
James Madison High School is giving seniors the spotlight they deserve by putting pictures on display outside the school.
Veronika Tskio's graduation picture might be one of the only senior traditions she'll get to enjoy as any dreams of walking across a stage and receiving her diploma have been put to a halt by the pandemic.
"I think as every other senior I was upset and very shocked,” says Tskio.
School staff worked to place the graduation pictures of 750 students on the fence around the school for the community to see as a substitute for a traditional graduation ceremony.
"The accomplishments they've attained, what they're planning to do in the future, it just speaks to the diversity of this building,” says principal Jodie Cohen.
It's something the students say they are excited and grateful for.
"I was very excited. When I first saw it, I called my mom and I came up here and started to look for my picture and I think that's a part of the excitement, it's to come around and look for the picture, look for friends,” says Tskio.
A virtual graduation will be held in June, but the pictures will stay up until at least August.
