JetBlue has issued a statement after a social media post gaining traction on TikTok criticized the airline’s response to a flight that had to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Flight 543 was headed to West Palm Beach from Newark when it had to turn around after engine failure and smoke in the cockpit. The flight landed safely in Newark, but passengers had to evacuate via the inflatable slides.
A passenger posted a video on TikTok claiming that they only received a $12 voucher from the airline.
But JetBlue says that passengers received three food vouchers sent in increments of $12, along with a refunded flight for all customers, even if they decided to be placed on another flight.
JetBlue also says that customers received instructions on how to submit covered expenses for reimbursement.
Officials with the airline say that safety is their top priority and they will continue to work with the passengers who were impacted.
