Sukkot may be a lesser known Jewish holiday for some, but it is an important tradition in the religion and it's being celebrated in October.
Sukkot means "the time of our joy" and it is celebrated during the harvest season. The idea is to build a temporary hut where the community can gather, eat and reflect. A sukkah was built outside Riverdale Temple on Friday.
The sukkah is decorated with fall-like details and themes made by children in the temple. The sukkah also commemorates the time the Israelites spent in the wilderness after they were freed from slavery in Egypt.
A rabbi at the temple told News 12 that when you are building the sukkah, you are supposed to be able to look up through the roof and see the stars.
