A major dumping ground that has been in Kingsbridge for 30 years has been cleaned up, according to Community Board 8.
The 3/4-mile-long CSX Putnam South property next to the Major Deegan Expressway was previously used for railroad traffic, but that stopped in the 1950s. Then the garbage and weeds began piling up, causing the community board to ask CSX Transportation to clean up the debris.
Community members who fought for the cleanup say they eventually want the property to be turned into green space.
Currently, CSX owns the property but is working with the city to sell it.
