The corner of Kingsbridge Road and Jerome Avenue has been co-named for a disc jockey killed nearly 30 years ago.

DJ Scott La Rock, whose real name was Scott Monroe Sterling, was fatally shot in August 1987 at age 25.

City Councilman Fernando Cabrera spearheaded the effort, along with the Bronx's Universal Hip Hop Museum. The intersection has officially been co-named DJ Scott La Rock Boulevard.

Several DJs, including Kool DJ Red Alert and Jazzy Jay, turned out for the event. They call La Rock a creative genius and hip-hop legend.

La Rock grew up in the Bronx and was part of the hip-hop group Boogie Down Productions. His pioneering album "Criminal Minded" documented the realities of the South Bronx in the late 1980s.

Carolyn Morant, La Rock's mother, says she's honored that her son means so much to the borough. She started a Boy Scout troop in his honor.

The DJs present at the ceremony say La Rock was someone who was and forever will be respected in the hip-hop world.
