A New York City police officer accused of raping a 16-year-old girl he met at church was back in court Friday.

Vladimir Sosa's lawyer says his client denies the allegations and asked the district attorney's office to drop the charges against Sosa.

Sosa's attorney, Joseph Indusi, handed over audio tapes to the prosecution Friday. On the tapes he claims, the victim can allegedly be heard saying that she was born in 1996, a crucial part of their defense since the criminal complaint states she was born in October of 1997.

Indusi says the victim lied to police about being 16 years old to get Sosa in trouble.

Sosa, who is also a pastor, is accused of raping the young woman in his apartment on three separate occasions in April, June and September of 2014 when investigators say the victim was only 16 years old.

His attorney claims the victim was 17 years old at the time of the alleged sexual assaults, the legal age for consent in New York State.

Sosa denies having sex with the victim. He is due back in court on May 27.

The district attorney's office says that it is continuing its investigation into the case.
