A group of fifth-grade students at the Bronx Community Charter School donated a portion of their profits to charity after a lesson on business leadership and entrepreneurship.

Twice a year, the school holds a student-run pop-up shop where fifth-graders sell homemade items to the rest of the student body.

Teachers say the lesson teaches kids what it's like to work with others and in a business.

This year, the students raised $1,600. Some of that will go toward future student projects, and the students donated the rest to three local organizations.

One is St. Barnabas Hospital, which 11-year-old Brenda Gonzales presented the donation to after staff there treated her for a head injury. Her uncle was also treated there after a heart attack, she says.
