In a multiagency effort, the city says it is patrolling 25 high-priority crash corridors to get ghost plates and ghost vehicles off the roads.
The effort, which was launched by Gov. Kathy Hochul last year, positions patrol vehicles to pull over and impound vehicles that don’t meet certain criteria.
The regulation states that vehicles must have uncovered, unaltered registered license plates.
News 12 cameras captures vehicles being pulled over and towed away by local law enforcement.
According to the NYPD, enforcement is up by 49.2%.
The city says this task force is a joint effort, by both city and state agencies, to make roadways safer and beat fare evaders.
