Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital honored an emergency room admitting representative Thursday for her quick thinking that may have saved a life.
Hellene Ballesteros jumped into action when Charles Davenport came to the emergency room last December with severe pain in his abdomen.
She made sure he received immediate care.
Davenport had appendicitis and was rushed in for an emergency appendectomy.
"I felt I had to step up, it was the instinct in me," Ballesteros says.
Davenport says that the Garden City South woman told him to 'please trust her,' and that's the reason why he's still alive today.
Ballesteros is studying to become a nurse. Her mother is an emergency technician at the hospital.
