A local program is working overtime to make sure New Yorkers have the opportunity to learn the electrician trade.
This comes as the United States is currently seeing a shortage in electricians, according to the Buildings Trade Educational Benefit Fund.
Local 363 Union has provided hundreds of people the opportunity to build a career in electricity, offering classes to people of all ages.
The union says that people are not aware of trades that provide not only a job, but a connection. For Paul, a veteran and instructor of the electrician courses, the occupation has helped he and other vets find their new purpose.
The program is five years and pays students to learn the trade to become an essential worker.
