The Joseph Lucchese Funeral Home, located on Morris Park Avenue in Van Nest, is closing its doors.

A Facebook post announced the closure on Friday. The post cited a recent vandalism incident as the reason behind the decision.

Police confirmed to News 12 on Saturday that a suspect broke into the building on April 3, stole $150,000 from the safe, then wrote curse words on the wall before lighting a small fire.

Owner Joseph Lucchese told News 12 that current rumors circling online about the building being under contract are false. He said that they are in talks with buyers, but discussions had not gone further than that.

“I see it as a service to the community, we’re all going to need the service at some point, so it is a loss to the community," said Yahay Obeid, a Van Nest resident.
