Zohran Mamdani made his first announcement as mayor-elect fourteen hours after being declared the next mayor of New York City, naming five members of his transition team, who are all women."
Mamdani acknowledged that "the beautiful prose of governing has only just begun" and that "the hard work starts now."
With a national microscope on how he plans to live up to his big campaign promises, Mamdani announced his team of former New York City Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, former Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan, campaign advisor Elana Leopold, United Way president and CEO Grace Bonilla and former New York City Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Melanie Hartzog.
Mamdani praised the experience of the team in dealing with crises, saying they will help deliver on what he promised and that all members of his administration would be "united by a passion to improve the city."
The mayor-elect also reiterated that he would like NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch to continue in her role after he is sworn in, saying he looked forward to having that conversation in the coming days.
