Police say a man attacked an 81-year-old woman and stole her gold necklace Sunday.
The robbery happened around 5:50 p.m. inside the stairwell of an Arthur Avenue apartment building in Belmont, according to authorities.
The suspect followed the victim, Laura Possero, into her building, grabbed the necklace from around her throat, kicked her to the ground and fled, police say.
The necklace, which contained eight religious medallions representing Possero's grandchildren, broke during the attack, she says. She was able to find one of the broken pieces on the floor.
Police say the suspect has a thin build and medium complexion. He was wearing a black baseball hat, a white T-shirt, beige shorts and black sneakers.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
