A man was fatally shot by an off-duty officer in Washington Heights on Sunday night.
Police officials say that the incident happened just before 10 p.m. An off-duty officer was standing outside of an apartment building on West 173rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue when he was approached by two men on separate mopeds.
One of the men, a 30-year-old, got off his moped and asked the officer if he knew a certain individual before pulling out a gun. The officer also pulled out his gun and fired multiple rounds at the man. The second man fled the scene on his moped,
Officers performed life saving measures and EMS took the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem where he was pronounced deceased. The off-duty officer was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
