A man was fatally shot in Soundview near a police precinct Thursday.
Darryl Samuels, 21, was shot and killed around 3 p.m. in front of his home just a block away from the 43rd Precinct. Police say his killer fled the scene and is still on the loose.
Police say Samuels was shot multiple times in the chest outside the James Monroe Houses in front of the Bx5 bus stop as children were leaving school and commuters were waiting for the bus.
Emergency workers administered CPR on Samuels, trying to resuscitate him. News 12 is told he later died at Jacobi Medical Center.
Investigators collected evidence throughout the day, including a .380-caliber gun. It is unclear to whom the gun belongs, but police say they found at least five bullet casings in and around where Samuels was shot.
There are no security cameras at the James Monroe Houses, but NYCHA says it is working with the NYPD in the investigation.
News 12 is told Samuels had been arrested 11 times in the past and had been shot before.
