Police say a 40-year-old man was found dead aboard a 1 train in Kingsbridge Wednesday.

Officers discovered the man unconscious and unresponsive aboard a northbound train at the Van Cortlandt Street subway station just after 11:30 a.m. Dozens of straphangers rushed off the train, unaware of the gruesome discovery.

“None of these people know what's going on; everybody going about their day,” said Jeremy, a Brooklyn commuter. “I’m surprised they didn’t quarantine the area and let riders out without telling people what's going on.”

EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time, stating the man didn’t have any visible wounds.

The man’s identity has not been released, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
