A man was found dead after being locked in a hospital bathroom for five days.

The family of 44-year-old Anthony Iuso says staff members saw him Thursday afternoon after he checked into the Montefiore Medical Center emergency room for a hurt finger. After three nurses went to bring him in for a look at his injury, they say he disappeared.

Iuso's family says they called his phone for days but it kept going to voicemail.

He was found locked in a bathroom on the third floor of the hospital on Monday.

Officials say Iuso worked in the hospital as an EMT. A hospital representative says officials are currently investigating the incident.

In a statement, the representative says the hospital community is deeply saddened by the loss, and their prayers are with Iuso's family.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
