A Bronx man is hoping for justice after a hit-and-run driver ran him over while he was crossing the street on his motorized wheelchair last Monday.
Robert Desanti says he had the right of way when he was struck in Hunts Point by a white van that sped through a red light at Bruckner Boulevard and Hunts Point Avenue.
Desanti was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was hospitalized for eight days. His scooter was also damaged in the accident, which left him using a regular wheelchair to get around.
According to the Department of Transportation, there have been more than 260 accidents at the same intersection between 2009 and 2013, but it's planning to break ground on safety improvements soon.
Meanwhile, Desanti says that whoever hit him and left him in the street should face the consequences.
Anyone with information that could help catch the driver involved should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
